The front covers usually have strong eye-catching colours that contrast in order to make them stand out. This is important as the main important things stand out with the use of colour and fonts which directs the readers attention to the masthead, headline and sell lines.
The articles inside feature big eye-catching images that reflect the hip hop culture i.e gangs, weapons etc. Also at times it features double page spreads which give the reader a sense the persona of the model(s) or concerts (see below) in order for them to get a feel of the atmosphere they are missing at these events so that they may want to be a part of it in the future. Furthermore the articles are also very informative and give a lot of detail to things in order to keep the reader entertain and well informed but not boring them with t
oo much writing at the same time.
The contents page of rap magazines mainly feature one artist/model and obviously is clearly representative of your genre. The colour scheme for this page is extremely important here and like this one it should stand out and make it easier for the reader to find the relevant article they are looking for without struggling to read. That is the main aim as if the reader has to struggle to read the page the chances are that they will not buy your magazine.
The other DPS is more focused on a particular person/artist and seems to be more informative than the other as it is most likely an interview. This is important as it can be quite helpful to the audience as they might want to learn more about this person/artist. I should focus my magazine on one of these two forms as it seems to be what many other DPS' are like.
